Dale Huse , Lee Park 1971

Press Release, July 22, 2010 :

Dale Huse back from “tour de Paris”

The day belonged to the vehement heat of the season. The pleasant morning air quickly turned hot as the riders started the tour pass the Eiffel Tower adorned with a red cowboy hat and then through the beautiful historic city of Paris! Streets filled with residents from the community waving and wondering why a person would ride a bicycle such a long distance when he could ride in a truck. Riders have been touring Paris for 26 years now so it must be OK.

After the ride through the city, the aggressive riders quickly broke away from the peloton, splitting the pack and allowing each cyclist to find their own pace as they entered the country side. Success today would require a steady respect for your ability to cope with the hot weather conditions and the riders climbing and descending skills.

With both style and determination cyclist Dale Huse claimed a time of 2h 33m 09s in completing the 60 kilometer route (37 miles). His average pace time dropped by .8 mph behind the Italy tour time last month. “I felt good about my pace,” Huse said. “I did not expect my average time to be slower.”

Not withholding the heat, the toughest part of the tour for the riders occurred on the final approach to the city. The route took the riders on a stretch of highway with such a rough road surface that your whole anatomy was numb by the time you survived the duration.

Huse’s final attack occurred when he sprinted the last mile of the route to the finish line, maintaining a 20+ mph mad pace.

Huse’s successful survival of this year’s tours will now depends on pitting himself against the grueling road, scorching hot sun and incessant wind of the Hotter ‘N Hell 100 on August 28, 2010 .

Editors note: Good-Luck on Hotter ‘N Hell 100 . We’ll report on that in the September issue.

You Can Take the Boy Off the Dirt Track, but You Can’t Take the Dirt Track Out of the Boy…

Jesse Graham sent us pictures of his dirt track racer. He said the pictures were taken before he put the engine in. Jesse said that he and both of his sons have cars and race every week.

Thanks to Rick Hill for sending us the following…..

My sister Laura 67' was watching the TV show "Good Guys" on Fox starring Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks son. Suddenly she realized they were filming on the porch of our old house, on the corner of Alaska Ave and Overton, when they showed the address 3526 then paned to the right and showed SOC HS. Later they pulled back and sure enough it was the house my parents bought new and we grew up in. She recorded it and I saw it later. Brought back a lot of memories of the good friends and neighbors we had. It can be seen on Fox internet site Season 1 episode 4 "The Dim Knight" starts at about 7.35 min into episode.    Rick Hill 69'
